This chart can give you an idea of the room size any given portable room air conditioner can handle. Measure your room dimensions and multiply them together to find the square feet.  Then find the corresponding BTU range.  This table assumes you have a standard 8 foot ceilings. General Information...

Why not just get a window unit?

A window unit may be perfect, if you have a window or if the room air conditioner does not need to be moved.  However, many small spaces do not have that luxury or may need more cooling than a window unit can provide.  A portable air conditioner can be used in addition to any cooling system to intensify its temperature control effectiveness.

Aren't portable air conditioners a hassle?

Not anymore!  Many portable air conditioners do not have lots of water to dump throughout the cycle. Many reuse that water to continually cool the air thus being more efficient without using much energy.  Also, they come equipped with castors and can easily be wheeled from room to room according to your needs. New features such as adjustable air flow and remote controls are being added and improved with these products.
