All Austin Air HealthMate air purifiers feature
a true medical grade HEPA Austin air filter in combination with one of three filter options for the removal of allergens, odors, gases and chemical
fumes. Drawing upon the
technology used in hospital “clean rooms” Austin Air produced a
prototype filter using true medical HEPA filter paper. They found
that if they surrounded their HEPA filter with granulated carbon/zeolite
it
would address the issues related to environmental toxicity
-chemicals and odors. Austin Air surrounded their HEPA paper and
carbon/zeolite with a
"pre-filter" (they call Permafilt) that ensures a filter life
un-equaled in the industry - a five-year filter life.
Only the finest materials are used such as coal
based carbon for its hardness and high absorption rate of odors and toxic
gasses. Natural zeolite is used as a mineral that has an exceptional ability
to capture small gas molecules such as ammonia, formaldehyde and sulfides.

Austin Air Offers Three Filter Options:
1. Carbon-Zeolite Filter
The Standard Austin Air HealthMate Air Purifier uses a carbon-zeolite
filter for effective removal of odors, noxious gases and hazardous airborne
chemicals.
2. SuperBlend Filter
The Austin Air HealthMate Plus air purifiers
feature the SuperBlend filter that consists of activated carbon/zeolite impregnated with potassium iodide;
this provides
greater adsorption of formaldehyde, ethylene, lower weight hydrocarbons,
ammonia and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). We recommend this filter for
those suffering from multiple chemical sensitivities.
3. HEGA Filter
The Austin Air Allergy Machine features a
filter developed by the British military for use against chemical warfare. The
HEGA filter consists of a specially designed military carbon cloth which is
lighter than granular activated carbon, lasts longer and provides a larger
surface area for greater adsorption of common pollutants.
