The Trion IAQ Electronic Air Cleaner uses electrostatic precipitation (ESP) to remove up to 95% of airborne particle contaminants such as dust mites, pet dander, mold spores, pollen, skin cells and dust.  The Forever Filter never needs replacing.  Just lift out, rinse the Forever Filter in your sink, and air dry.  The Trion IAQ Electronic Air Purifier Console Model is efficient, effective and easy to use.

Most home air purifiers use a media filter, sometimes HEPA, that is made of cloth or paper fibers woven into a tight mesh fabric.  As air blows through the fabric, solid particles are caught.  There are two drawbacks to media filters.  One is the expensive cost to replace.  The other is airflow.  Air has a hard time flowing through the fabric, especially after dust and contaminants have accumulated on it.  Within the lifetime of a media filter, airflow steadily decreases as dust & particles pile up, filtering your air slower and slower until you throw it away and buy a new filter.

The Forever Filter is electrostatic in nature.  Electricity is used to pull particles from the air as it passes between metal fins.  Particles stick to the metal fins like a magnet.  With nothing to restrict the airflow, little power is needed.  The Trion IAQ Console uses a quiet little fan that takes 70 watts of power. That's less than the 100 watt light bulb in your kitchen.  Once the metal fins become dirty, they will continue to capture particles as well as when they were clean.  Here's how it works.

1. As air is pulled past the ionizer, particles such as dust, smoke and pollen become electrically charged.
    
2. Next air flows past aluminum plates that are positively and negatively charged.  The particles are attracted to the negatively charged plates where contamination is collected.
    
3. Finally, airflow passes through activated charcoal which acts as a catalyst, removing harmful gases or chemicals.

Feel free to research.  You will find that electrostatic filters are the preferred technology of large commercial and industrial air cleaning systems.

MERV 15
is as rating for the filter.  The MERV rating system is usually found only on high end products.  MERV, Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value is a very stringent standard based on particle arrestance and efficiency.  The Forever Filter will arrest 95% of particles 0.3 microns and larger.  Typically, 15 is the highest rating you will find, though there are a few 16s out there.  Most residential filters will be a 13.
